Premiere: Slowmotions

posted August 22, 2017 #

I am extremely happy to announce that one of my favorite tracks from the second Slowmotions album, The Domes, now has an official video. The kind folks at For the Rabbits have posted the premiere for "Banker" and you can partake in all its mixed media glory now.

Here's a nice bit of insider info from songwriter Andrew Brassell on its creation:
Contrasting dark subject matter with upbeat music or imagery is something I've been interested in for a while and I think that fits in with why I animated large parts of the video and used my own drawings. I like creepily endearing things and art that is pleasing or interesting enough to draw you in and get you closer to whatever subject matter is at the heart of it, no matter how dark or unpleasant that may be. That's how I like to think my art is and I think it pairs well with the song.

There's also something distinctly 90's about the video. One of my friends saw an early version and told me that it reminded them of a trapper keeper, which I think is pretty spot on. I wanted it to be a colorful, messy collage and old videos of friends and family added some humanity to the mix. Essentially the video was made as a means of expression for me, but I'm happy to share it with anyone willing to watch.
It's truly an onslaught of imagery - childhood videos, ambient lights, animated faces, text and fast paced cuts keep it interesting.

Give it a watch and then dive into the album, it's one of those overlooked gems you'll come to love.
