Boxee TV

Introducing Boxee TV

Boxee recently launched their latest hardware undertaking - Boxee TV, a set top box that will allow you to watch HD broadcast TV and cloud based DVR. It's only available in eight markets at launch but it looks fairly promising. The Verge has posted a fairly exhaustive look at the new device; well worth a read if you're considering picking one up. The previous hardware, The Boxee Box, will likely be phased out from this point forward. Assuming it works like it says it does, this could be a pretty huge leap forward in the world of Cord Cutting. Definitely a topic to keep your eye on.

  • This thing looks great, but the only issue I have is that it DVR's to the cloud...so theoretically, you could chew through your ISP monthly data cap really quickly don't you think? For example, I think I have 300gb of comcast data a month before they slow me down. If everything I watch on this Boxee box is DVR'd, I'd think it would be more than 300gb a month in data.... Anyone else with me on this?

  • Totally agree. the Verge article tackles that a little bit and I *think* it may be one of the reasons Comcast gets on board with Boxee - because customers will likely have to upgrade their packages if they don't wanna get smacked down.

  • Yeah that's what i figured. Always an angle! If it weren't for my unhealthy addiction to SEC football I'd cut the cord too.
