Flat UI

Flat UI

I've mentioned before that I'm a big fan of "Flat UI" - currently being embraced by the likes of Microsoft and Google in droves. It's a nice change from the overly beveled and shiny everything. Flat UI is a free UI Kit to help you achieve similar ends for yourself. There are plenty of styles in here that will work for any project and make them look incredibly clean & simple by doing so. The only downside is that Flat UI doesn't invite the user to click as much, they have to have an understanding of interfaces in general. This is becoming less of an issue as everyone becomes deeply entrenched in the web.

  • I like the flat look too, but I haven't seen anyone pull it off very well. I just started using Prismatic which attempts it to disasterous results. It's barely usable. Designers who use it need to be extremely careful to clarify which elements are clickable.

  • Whoops, currently unavailable due to DMCA takedown from Layer Vault (https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/master/2013-03-06-LayerVault.md). However, it seems like designmodo ripped icons/illustrations from Layer Vault and Designer News. It doesn't seem due to the aesthetic/flat design similarities with LV.
