The Verge is running a great series all week on The War for TV. The first installation in the series, Over The Top, is a pretty good run down on the state of things - cable and satellite vs internet and how the forthcoming shift will actually have a huge impact on the way TV works. Much of the article is maybe a bit too optimistic in my opinion (this kind of change is going to take a whole lot longer than most suspect) but it's a great stake in the ground to take note that this is where things are headed, like it or not.
