Street View Of 1980s New York

posted September 29, 2017 #

The site 80s.nyc compiles a huge repository of images into a browsable Google Map of New York in the 1980's. Many of the images are, unsurprisingly, fairly low resolution but the exploration of all the different neighborhoods certainly makes up for any lack of clarity. Parts of the Lower East Side look remarkably similar but, just up the street, it's a foreign landscape. Times Square, while scary at the time, looks great and anywhere along the park is worth a view. But if you want to get really adventurous, dive into different areas of Brooklyn. My old apartment looks pretty much exactly the same but there are so many weird and beautiful spots, totally forgotten.
