Square Piggy, Round Holly, All Too Human

posted May 3, 2017 #

I've posted this reminder before but it bears repeating, two rather different but equally interesting releases from my label, yk records, were released in varying years in early May. That is to say, these records are having "birthdays" and I love for that to serve as a reason to revisit them:
  • Slowmotions - Square Piggy, Round Holly - after the release of his first album, Quick Potions, I pestered Mr. Brassell to release the remainder of songs, snippets and b-sides he had lying around. I think it works quite well as a companion piece to the original and still enjoying listening to it. The last two songs are goofy as can be but it's a nice reminder that artists should have fun too.
  • Uncle Skeleton - All Too Human - the third album from Uncle Skeleton was also the first double LP for yk records. We released three singles leading up to the full album and included a bunch of remixes and b-sides along the way. It's a massive album broken up into four "movements." I listen to the entire album regularly but this weird song always resonates with me, I just wish it was longer.

The album, as a whole, never ceases to impress me but I recommend parsing it out into the four segments (listed on the Bandcamp page for full enjoyment).
