It's been awhile since I picked up a book and wanted to do nothing more but spend all my free time tearing through it. Such was the case with The Raw Shark Texts, the debut novel from Steven Hall. The book tells the story of a man, Eric Sanderson, who awakes and finds himself with no memory. Letters from himself in the past start to arrive hoping to explain his situation and how he can proceed forward. Giving away more than that would be an injustice.

Aside from the plot itself being a nice gripping piece of work it's also worth noting that the book straddles several genres and can be read in a manner of ways. You might read it as a love story, or a science fiction piece, as a study in psychological behaviors or maybe as all of them combined. It works.

The book has already been optioned for a film version but I suggest reading through it before that happens. It won't take you more than 3 days, max, to finish it. For a sample, please watch this video with Tilda Swinton reading off a passage explaining how our minds can be connected.
