Netflix meets Silverlight
posted October 27, 2008 #
According to this article (and personal anecdote from Jason Lombard) it appears that Netflix hopes to have "Play Now" capability available for Mac users sometime in the near future. The catch? It uses / requires Microsoft's Flash competitor Silverlight. If ever there was a way for Silverlight to actually compete with Flash, this is it. Granted, the Mac crowd is a small percentage of the Netflix crowd (of any crowd really) but it stands to reason that if one large company successfully rolls out a program utilizing Silverlight (and the DRM within) we may see others do it as well. Who knows, maybe Hulu is next.
