Jamie just sent me these images of the upcoming Windows upgrade, Longhorn. The shots show the updated OS running a theme called "Glass" and tries to show some of the new menus and such.
Now, I am probably the most apt to jump on this and say it looks weak in comparison to OS X - but that's not the point. Without making Mac comparisons, just try and think of this version versus XP. I'm not a big fan of the glow around text and the constant dropshadows but the subtle blur on windows in the background is a nice touch.
The most disappointing portion of all this is that I've been told they didn't really even recode the main engine for Windows, they just sort of reskinned it, added some features, and probably loaded it up with DRM. I'll be very intrigued to see the definitive features list of the new system to see what all it incorporates.
And seriously - no comparisons of this to OS X - it's not worth wasting your breath.
