korn vs the major labels

posted April 12, 2004 #

I've seen alot of commentary on this whole KoRn versus the major record label industry.. and how they are speaking up against the majors, etc. etc. blah blah. Apparently their latest video shows them smashing a record store and flashes message similar to the Van Halen's "Right Now" - only it's all about how crappy the industry is. That Rolling Stone article asks -"does this seem hypocritical?" Umm. .hell yes it is hypocritical. Aside from the fact that the band wouldn't have any sort of outlet to say these things without a major, the label paid for the album being recorded AND all the promotion - including the video that slags them! 90% of music doesn't turn a profit because 90% of listeners don't want anything interesting or edgy.. homogeny is key.

Sorry about that.. had to rant for a moment. I understand the plight of being of being on a major, but it's not like anyone forces your hand to sign a contract - it's a voluntary activity. On the flipside, having another reason to hate KoRn can never be a bad thing.
