It’s Time To Put Our Money Where Our Mouths Should Be

This piece from Jeremy Schoenherr does a great job on articulating one of the bigger issues with the state of things lately. If you are not outraged by what's happening with abortion laws or our constantly lying President or rampant gun violence or the fight against Healthcare, you are on the wrong side of history. Period. If someone wants to yell at me on Twitter for that, have at it.
Schoenner's piece is largely focused on the fight for female rights and the lack fo vocal outrage from men. As a white, cis, man myself; I am privileged in ways that are often hard to comprehend because they've been such a given my entire life. Schoenner does a better job than myself of making that point and how it should not be taken lightly.
At the end of the day, taking action in ways beyond Internet engagement is the only way to make a difference. Tweeting, Instagramming, whatever is not really going to put a dent in anything. So, give money to operations like Yellowhammer Fund that helps people get the resources and transportations they need in Alabama when facing the horribly difficult decision of abortion. Schoenner lists a bunch of other spots where your money can make a difference, even if it's just a little.
Giving money should only be the first step. It's a powerful step but should not stop there; as being vocal in real life will make a difference too. That doesn't mean you have to be confrontational or aggressive about it but silence is not working.
This is all a long ramble to say - I want to do better. I have privilege that I often take for granted and want to do more. I hope you feel the same.
