Fata Morgana

Some footage was recently released from thousands of residents of China reporting a "floating city" in the sky. Given the recent far off possibility of found alien technology, I was intrigued and excited by this castle in the sky. The footage is bonkers.

Turns out, science can step in and explain it away with a phenomena known as Fata Morgana. Light refraction distorts and reflects objects from below making it appear that they are suspended in the sky. There are great breakdowns of the phenomena but a big part of me chooses to embrace ignorance and believe something fishy is going on. Way more fun. The Google Images results are pretty astounding.
