\"F8\"
For some time now I\'ve been hearing little rumblings that \"Facebook is the new Google\" and I could never wrap my head around why people would think such a thing. Google offers services; useful things. Facebook seems to offer distraction and personal grandstanding. Then, I watched the F8 keynote from this year - Facebook\'s big announcement developer conference. Their pitch for a semantic web using Facebook Like buttons / OpenGraph has some scary implications but it also might revolutionize the web by potentially personalizing everything.

While this doesn\'t necessarily position Facebook to be more service based but it does put them in a position to be the central repository of information about you, the consumer, that can customize a sites experience right off the bat - even if its the first time you\'ve visited there.

Bottom line - Facebook is hoping that they can be omnipresent on the web and (voluntarily) collect as much information about you as possible. Scary, right?

What is it you're looking for?
