Bushwig 2017
posted September 26, 2017 #
Bushwig is a yearly drag, arts, fashion and boutique festival that's been around since 2012. It carries the mantle of Wigstock, a drag festival from the 1980's started by Lady Bunny that celebrated gay culture and community during a time when gay culture was not nearly as accepted as it is now.
There's much to be said about the importance of such events but, for now, let's focus on the specific activities of Bushwig. The two-day event gives a literal platform to performers to showcase their drag performances and high-art fashion constructs. In short, it's like a Comic-Con but without the focus being around anything specific, just your own self-expression, whatever that may be.
The variety of creativity - most of which is handmade - is beyond abundant. Here are a few spots to dive in but be prepared for rabbit holes on rabbit holes of discovery:

- 39 Photos from Bushwig 2017 - nice wrapup from New Now Next of the event.
- Gothamist Summary - another 40 photos from the event showcasing how completely varietal the event can be.
- #Bushwig2017 / Bushwig Location- the Instagram tags are, clearly, a great place to get lost. Wonderful photos capturing the attendees from all angles.
