Breaking AMP

posted April 5, 2017 #

I haven't given much thought to Google's Accelerated Mobile Pages - the technology that allows articles from across the web to be quickly surfaced and grouped together via a common markup language (the Instant Articles of the web) - except for seeing the occasional gripe on Twitter that I usually agreed with. However, after reading through this Andrew Betts piece of AMP: Breaking News, I'm further solidified in the belief that it's more harmful than helpful. The URL masking alone is enough to bother me but I know most casual Interneters wouldn't care too much.

There's a litany of reasons to be worried about the technology and that article makes a great case for each. Please give it a read.
