Boxwell History Transcription Project
posted April 23, 2019 #
I grew up as a Boy Scout. I joined a Troop, earned a bunch of merit badges and my parents were smart enough to make me stick with it and earn Eagle Scout. One of the most fun parts of the experience was going to Scout Camp, over on Boxwell Reservation.
My brother worked there, eventually making his way up in the ranks just about as high as you could go. He's been working on an oral history of the camp for the last... ten years? Compiling interviews, doing deep dive microfiche research and forming the story of the destination.
Here's where you come in. He's got loads and loads of audio interviews that need to be transcribed so that they can be easily searchable and quotable. Turns out, automated transcription services are somewhat inaccurate and personal transcriptions (people listening and typing it out) is expensive. He's posted a Go Fund Me to help raise the money to convert these audio files into proper text.
As the little brother, I tried to do some due diligence and assist with automated transcription via Google's Speech-To-Text or even YouTube's automated transcriptions, they just aren't as accurate. Maybe they'll work as a fallback but the desired solution here is paying folks to write it down.
TLDR: My brother has a project that could use $10 or so of your dollars. I've been running this blog for over a decade and rarely ask for much.. so can you throw some ducats his way?
