Against my better judgement I went to see Rambo last night and left feeling like a terrible person. The level of gratuitous violence was immeasurable and, in the end, the moral of the story was 'nothing changes and death prevails.' It's not that I need a positive outcome to the movies that I see but it's rather bizarre to have a movie where the protaganist is the worlds biggest pessimist and by the time the film wraps up it turns out he was right. So, and this should go without saying, don't go see Rambo. I don't know what the allure is of the other 3 films (never seen them) but I hope it's not on the same level as this.

As a palette cleanser I immediately went home and watched Shoot Em Up again. If you've not seen it and consider yourself a fan of action movies I can't recommend it enough. The whole thing is the perfect balance of absolutely absurd comic-book style violence (read: gratuitous but not nerve wracking to watch) and remembering never to take itself seriously. If you're going to watch a movie to see action and turn your brain off for awhile for the pure entertainment purposes; Shoot Em Up is a good way to go.
