I gotta give a big amount of thanks to Steve Niebauer and Chad Pugh for the constant supply of absurd video entertainment that ends up in these weekly lists. I literally couldn't do it without them.
  • Don't Hug Me I'm Scared, Vol 5 - I love this series. The new episode does not disappoint.
  • Owen Wilson Whispers - he sure does!
  • Cat Chiropractor - a silly skit featuring Bobby Tisdale (that's Zeke from Bob's Burgers). I can't explain why but the bit where he actually adjusts the cat had me in fits.
  • w/ Bob and David - the first official trailer for the new Netflix show has been released and I'm kind of stunned at how much it looks and feels exactly like Mr. Show. Very excited.
  • Squatty Potty Unicorn - I actually stumbled on this late last week thanks to Lee and it's an absurdly weird commercial for a device I've actually heard high praise from others about.
  • Vorhees Stomp - if we're being honest, I don't really love the video on this because I'm so out of the loop on classic 80's horror film tropes but I do love the song. And it's October appropriate, so enjoy!
  • Say Hi - Torrents of Rain - great combination of silly and spooky. An entertaining Halloween based music video
Hey, don't forget to watch Computer Show as well, you'd be a dummy not to.

It's October! Okay, technically it was October last week but I was out of town and not really quite feeling the excitement of the Halloween season descending upon us. You know what I love the most about this time of year? Candy corn. Yea, that's right - the waxy, questionable, candy treat that's plagued kids treat bags for years is one of my favorites. Now you know a little something about me.

Enjoy these distractions:
  • Pumpkin Dance - I'm going to post this every week until Halloween because it needs to be seen as much as humanly possibly. 3 million views? We can do better than that.
  • American Ninja-saurus - nothing like an obstacle course in an extremely awkward dinosaur suit.
  • Hey Folks - an hour of Marc Maron saying Hey Folks. How much can you endure??
  • Sarah Moody on Hardly Art Records - Moody's take on what role a record label should play with an artist is exactly what I'm trying to do with yk records, though she states it way more eloquently than I ever could.
  • Will Butler "Anna" - entertaining music video featuring Emma Stone dancing around. Not too shabby. There's a solid Song Exploder episode about this song too.
  • Input/Output - I can't even begin to express what is happening here but there's a myriad of unexpected output from the inputs.
  • Breakmaster Cylinder - Chordettes - I've been listening to a lot of Reply All lately and when they mentioned this Chordettes remix put to Horror movie clips, I knew it was an appropriate introduction to the Halloween season. And the song is bonkers.
They can't be embedded unfortunately but I highly suggest this series of Saddam Hussein replacing sad movie deaths series. Ridiculous.

I've been traveling quite a bit this week and attending this wonderful conference in Memphis - Creative Works. That is to say, my browse time for videos has been extremely slim. The offerings here are meager but, hopefully, still enough entertainment to fuel your fire. I'm off to see more Creative Works goodness. Hopefully the above keeps you mildly occupied and satisfied for another week.

Occasionally there are things I can't embed in the Friday videos because my player only supports Youtube and Vimeo. I'll figure out a solution for this one day but, in the meantime, please make sure you enjoy this Donald Trump Narcotest video and spend some time with Nicolas Godin's Contrepoint album. You need them both in your life.

I digress! On to the videos... Where's the Bad Lip Reading of the Pope's USA visit? It's percolating, right?

Had a crazy week this week but I'm not complaining - love how much stuff is going on lately and hope to keep the fires blazing bright. Enjoy these distractions and get yourself fired up for another week of existence. I felt bad adding so many longer videos in this week so please take note of these here in the addendum: Vancouver Never Plays Itself from Every Frame a Painting and Children of Men, Don't Ignore the Background from Nerd Writer.

Fun fact, there's a NASA Graphics Manual Kickstarter that has raised nearly 750k to reprint scans of a 1975 manual. The fun part is that NASA just released the entire manual for free. So, if you were curious what the contents were but didn't want a bound book of them, you're in luck.

Hope you had a great week. I think I could get used to this four-day work week thing.
  • Dead Man's Bones - should I save this for Halloween? Probably but this dance routine is just too spellbinding to not share immediately. Thank you Wijtze.
  • Reverse Jaws Boat Scene - I saw a gif of this making the rounds and the keyword search to find the original material was too perfect.
  • Hell's Club - probably the most insane mashup of films I've seen. Yes, I posted it earlier this week. Yes, you still need to watch it.
  • The Art of Close-Ups with Edgar Wright - love the work of Edgar Wright and will take any chance to hear him talk about his process and filmmaking in general.
  • Viet Cong "Bunker Buster" - beautifully shot and perfectly weird music video. Quality song too.
  • Laser Moon Awakens - listen, I tend to stray from Star Wars related anything online because there's just too much of it and the saturation makes everything not funny. So, the recommendation to watch the full 30 minutes of Laser Moon Awakens does not come lightly. Thank you Paul
Need more? Watch this great MacWorld feature on Specimen - with Erica Gorochow and the Upright T-Rex boys. Or just watch this absolute madness about 100 times. Or have a peek at this chart of insane correlated data.

Labor Day is right around the corner. Why not kick off from work early? Maybe you already have. Good on you. Enjoy these videos and partake in the best relaxation you can imagine.
  • Duck Army - caught this via Andy and have watched all too many times.
  • Kanye West Seinfeld - this will likely get pulled soon but this Kanye VMA rant mashed up with Seinfeld is too good.
  • Children's Palace Commercial - where I grew up there was no Children's Palace toy store. Which means there was no Peter Panda in my life. What a travesty. I think this may be the first heavily Northern accented mascot I've encountered.
  • Gunship - "Tech Noir" - a claymation extravaganza featuring 80's classics. Nostalgia fueled for sure but done in such a way that it's original and enjoyable.
  • Why Not Both? - a new life mantra for us all.
  • Happy Fox - a fox wags its tail. Hearts melt.
  • End of An Era: Tokyo's Hotel Okura - a short but great piece on the Hotel Okura, a stunning testament to Japan and modern design. via Jamie
  • Squid Aerobics - just delightful.
  • Chilly - "We Are Pop Kings" - my cab driver last weekend was blasting this song. It was equal parts incredibly weird and enjoyable.
Want more? How about the Worst 28 Seconds in the History of Music? Or maybe this Mash up? Or this one? That should tide you over for a long weekend.

Been feeling a bit under the weather this week but I'm fighting the good fight and delivering proper distractions for us all. Enjoy.
  • What Are Frogs? - SNL Celebrity Jeopardy can not hold a candle to this little gem.
  • Weird Gamer Guy E3 - a clip was making the rounds this week of a strange man in line to see a Satanist Baphomet statue but his prior appearance at E3 is one for the books.
  • Coen Brothers POV - conceptually simple: a supercut of POV shots from the Coen Brothers. In practice, absolutely delightful.
  • Hyper Light Drifter - Trailer 2 - I am happy to see that this Kickstarter project from 2013 is still chugging along and still looks like a phenomenal game. Oh, and the soundtrack is from Disasterpiece, total bonus.
  • Destroyer "Times Square" - excellent stop motion animation video from Destroyer. When the triangle licks the mushroom, you know you're in for a treat.
  • Bernie Sanders 404 - it's great that ole Bernie made a custom 404 video message but seeing it out of context is kind of delightful.
  • Use the Cat Door - this sums up the feline species nicely.
What did I miss this week? This? This kid? Let me know.

There's some gems in here this week. Enjoy and don't even think about getting any work done today. It's basically the last friday of the Summer I'm told... don't waste it! Great! Look at this delightful guy and have a great weekend.

Hey, it's Friday! Time to kick off the ole boots and relax. If you haven't investigated the goodness of Sleep Good yet.. do so now because I'm going to keep bugging you about it until you do.
  • True Detective S2 Aerial Shots - last week I put a request for every aerial shot from True Detective Season 2 and Shawn Sutherland made it happen. Lovely
  • Lawnmower Problems - danger awaits this man. Hope it all worked out.
  • The Void - world's first virtual reality amusement park. I gotta admit, I would do this. It's like next gen blazer tag.
  • Bulldog Box Lover - I watched every second of this. It's even better when presented as it was to me - as a "cautionary metaphor for how materialism blinds us all." Ridiculous. via John
  • Bug-A-Salt 2.0 - do you have a fly problem? do you need more tiny piles of salt all around your house? Here's the perfect solution. via Keith
  • The Arcs - "Put a Flower In Your Pocket" - the Arcs is a new undertaking involving Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys and Richard Swift from too many projects to count. Nice animated video for their first jam.
That's all I got! Short but sweet. Enjoy your life.

Goodbye July, we hardly knew ya. I've got lots of good stuff on the horizon for the remainder of the year and July ending feels pretty exciting actually.

Enjoy these distractions!
  • Adavi Donga Songs - this is the sort of thing I'd usually tag on the end of Friday Videos to say "look how nuts this is!" but it's so good that we should all appreciate it right off. Watch the whole thing, Please!
  • Beyonce Chicken Dance - if you told me this was real, I would not doubt you for a second.
  • Hard Copy 1991 - an investigative report on a found video tape and an unsolved murder... or maybe just lost footage from a Nine Inch Nails video.
  • Tame Impala - Cause I'm A Man - when I thought about the video for this song I imagined exactly zero things depicted here. This is so far off the wall it's hard to explain. 80's CG to the extreme. I think it's so bad it's good but it might just be too weird to tell.
  • Mini Mansions - Cheap Leather - not my favorite song from their latest record but a good one nonetheless. This video goes through a treasure trove of glitchy DVD effects, so it wins me over.
  • Workin' In a Cocktail Bar - stick with it. The absurdity gets better and better as it goes along. via.
  • Fox TV - literally, foxes for 97 minutes. Not exactly a thrilling video but great background fodder for myself.
Oh, and watch this. A bunch.

I'm having a hard time believing that it's nearing the end of July. Summer is fleeting to be sure.

If you are in the Brooklyn area this weekend, please come see Birdcloud. If you are not, please see them in your town.

The above image depicts real chip flavors. Just think about that for a bit.
  • Jurassic Park: High Heels Edition - the GIF is actually funnier than the trailer but both are nice commentary on the absurdity of the worst part of Jurassic World, the high heels.
  • Rue McLanahan Cat Party - maybe this is super old but I don't care, it's my absolute new favorite combination of words.
  • Reflektor Tapes First Look - Arcade Fire documentary seems like an inevitable thing, which it was. Because here's the first teaser for it.
  • Batman covers Kiss From A Rose - I openly admit to how stupid this is but I can't resist the enjoyment it brings.
  • Here We Go Magic - Falling - new song and video from a consistently enjoyable band.
  • Fargo Season 2 - this show feels like a critics favorite but not really widely enjoyed by the masses. This is unfortunate because Season 2 looks like it will be even better than the first, a hard task by every stretch.
  • PIXELS, the review - sometimes you encounter a diatribe of the perfectly worded and executed vitriol and can't help but love it. I watched this entire 10 minute review of Pixels and would watch it again in a heartbeat. I'm not surprised the movie is awful but I am pleased at this takedown. Do yourself a favor and just watch the original short that they bought the rights to - it's 1,000x better.

My week was ultra short thanks to a VHX retreat upstate. So, my browsing and finding distracting video hasn't been at an all time how. That being said, I think you'll feel plenty distracted and ready to embrace your Summer Friday. That's it! Have a great weekend.

The days just fly by, huh? Or maybe I'm having a short work week followed by another short work week and I'm just feeling the crunch time a little more intensely. Who can say. Enjoy these distractions: Have a great weekend. If you need more distraction how about reading up on Matilda, the cat with a rare eye disease that makes it look like a 100% alien? It will haunt your dreams, you've been warned.

The future is here! Look at this tweet, it's undeniably here. Oof.

Here is your weekly dose of distractions. You'll need em.
  • Moontrap Trailer - late 80's sci-fi at its finest. You don't even need to see the movie after watching this, cause you'll have seen it all.
  • Steve Jobs on Music Subscriptions - turns out, in 2003, Jobs was convinced music subscriptions were a terrible idea. Or, at the very least, that's the way he spun it. Interesting change in just a small amount of time.
  • Steve Jobs Pissed Off Moments - just for good measure, a compilation of Jobs being a real prick.
  • Tipsy DARPA Robots - some of these flipouts will become dance moves, mark my word.
  • Bully - Trying - local Nashville band releases their first official video off their forthcoming full-length Feels Like.
  • Fidlar - 40oz On Repeat - a mediocre song but a tribute to all things 90s, mostly with cardboard. Relive your younger days with this new, meh, song!
  • Bladerunner B-Roll Cut - 45 minute cut of Bladerunner comprised mostly of b-roll footage. That is literally all I know about this.
Love these dogs but, moreso, love the Illuminati twist.

Oh, and if you haven't been following the VHX Instagram, get on it! I'm throwing gold over there. Need more? Watch this Aaron Chewning vine, over and over and over. I'm also planning on diving into the Fermi Paradox, Pt. II. The Internet is an endless wonderland.
