Being asked to pick your "all time favorite tracks" is a bit of a trick. The idea that a certain set of songs could transcend the time in which it was originally considered your favorite is a near impossibility. The discovery of hard rock in high school or the lyric-spinning goodness of certain indie rock treats in college were absolutely perfect at the time of my affection. Unfortunately, those feelings may not hold true anymore.
So how do you pick songs that represent your "all time favorites" when music is such a fical and timely companion? My solution was to pick a set of songs that even listening to them now bring back the same feelings that I had at the time, even if those feelings aren't exactly the way I feel all the time.
Eighty minutes fills up fast when making selections such as these but I am confident that they properly represent my musical tastes. Granted, it doesn't represent all of my musical tastes (there are quite a few morose and slow songs missing) but it runs the gamut pretty thoroughly.
I had planned to explain why each song was picked but I don't think that is neccasary. Each song reminds me of a specific time, place, or person and the memories that go along with that. If you're curious why I picked anything, just ask.
