previews

I saw several good previews last night (which I'm trying to remember now) but one of them was for Waking Life, a movie that appears to have been done completely in Flash.. pretty cool. I also saw one for a new Steve Martin movie called Novocaine, that has Helena Bonham Carter in it (a definite plus).

I saw this movie tonight

I went and saw an "exclusive viewing" (for Tennessee) of Mulholland Drive tonight, the latest work from David Lynch. I must say, I am quite pleased with this movie. Mostly because after leaving the theatre I have no idea what really happened or what to think of it. I know I liked it, and I know I'll be thinking about it for years - it's just baffling. There's lots of really great shots, good acting, and a fantastic plotline. Really worth the money spent in my opinion. It's nice to throw in a quality film with the usual crap that I numb my brain with, quite a treat.

Are ou are a linux freak but love the easy of use of Windows? Michael Robertson (mp3.com president) is the answer to your problems. Check out the forthcoming Lindows.com. Linux meets Windows. Ridiculously bad name, but could be interesting. Another quality link provided by Grady Eades.

cool photo site

Go check out lackadaisical.com, very simple layout with some great photos. The site actually mildly reminds me of test pilot collective and their archive system - but that's pretty standard stuff. Great photos, like the one on 07-12-01.

salon - courtney article

I forgot how well written and passionate this article is. Even though it was written in summer 2000 - it still holds true re: labels, musicians, digital downloads, etc.

crop dusting

I don't really want to post this, but I feel like people should know that there has been some cases of cropdusting attacks - no confirmation on the substances used or if they were even harmful.. irregardless, it's still a ridiculous attack. Why do people feel like Sept. 11th is an excuse to go off and do such terrible things?

ET edited

Ugh, I just read about the new E.T. DVD being altered from the original. There are some things such as this where the guns are replaced by walkie talkies digitally that I can live with (I think it's dumb but I can live with it) but replacing E.T. with digital versions? Did anyone see Jaba The Hutt in the re-releases of Star Wars? Did anyone pay attention to how horrible he looked? Don't mess with a classic! This isn't hard..

damn record store

I hate it when you goto the record store and they don't have what you specifically came there for. Thats what happened to me yesterday, and hopefully it won't happen again today (if the CD comes out on TUESDAY.. stock the shelves monday night, not tuesday during the day....).

apple mp3 player

So the big Apple news is out. They have released a product called iPod - a digital music player. It has a 5 gig drive in it and uses Firewire. Overall a cool device, but it's not exactly revolutionary or worth keeping secret - other people have made mp3 players already. But the design is sleek, it's worth checking out.

new jpurvis phoots

Either I overlooked these somehow the other day or they are rather new. Check out the new photos at jpurvis. I'm not a huge fan of the blurry light photos (though a few are pretty cool) but there are some high quality ones thrown in there too.

the incredible shrinking memory

I posted the other day about some incredible breakthroughs by Bell Labs regarding chipsize, and now it seems Intel has gone and shrunk flash memory - so cellphones, PDA's, etc. may very well be smaller yet hold more.

industrial terrorism? ugh

I think people's definitions of "terrorism" may get out of hand. Check out this Slashdot article - re: an attempt to make computer crimes be defined as terrorism, and Microsoft jumping on and saying viruses are "industrial terrorism." Ugh..

noooo

Man, whats up with sequels to movies that need to be let go? Bill & Ted 3 is not something that should happen - it will not be written in the same way, it won't be the same type movie... let go of the dream Bill S. Preston, Esquire.. let it go.

deadsy

Okay, I'm going to make a prediction. The band Deadsy will have some (mild) success with their upcoming album Commencement. I don't think they necassarily deserve it, but it's my prediction anyway. Check the best deadsy fan site and download the song "Key to Grammercy Park." It's even got ole Jon Davis of Korn doing backing vocals - it's bound to make it's way to TRL one day. Ahh, I remember when this band actually had some clout - now they're just a hardcore goth boy band.

123klan rules

I'm sure I've seen it before but 123Klan is really rad. The illustration styles are great - it's a great balance of the new school shapes mixed with cartoon-y illustrations and some amazing graffiti. In fact, check the graffiti page and prepare to respect them - and if you don't, go get some spray paint and attempt it yourself.. it's not that easy. Amazing work.

grady rules

My brother sends the best links. Like this one about a DMCA Protester - and his software that cracks the Microsoft Windows Media encryption so your music doesn't time out after a certain time. I admit I had some trepidation about this whole "including wma files" on a CD as your digital version - and this protestor shares my thoughts. If I buy a CD, I should be able to copy, encode, or play the CD whereever I want - as long as I don't distribute it.
