Jim just clued me in to Gravatar (Globally Recognized Avatars); a service that allows you to associate an avatar image with your email address to be displayed in people's blog comments / web applications. Apparently it comes default with Wordpress but it's new to me. The site is simple, easy to use and a great idea but I do have concerns about making a bunch of calls to a third party server to display my content properly. If a post had 300 comments that would, potentially, be 300 image calls to their servers; as opposed to just a local directory.

So, I'm intrigued but not fully sold yet. Anyone implemented this yet and had any problems / concerns to voice?
