The iTunes LP

Awhile back I wrote about the forthcoming "CDX" format from the major labels and the competing format from Apple - codenamed "Cocktail." Turns out that format is what is now being called iTunes LP - basically a full-fledged website experienced from within your iTunes. Jay Robinson has some great notes on the format and what to expect from existing offerings (via ArtistsPaid).

I wonder if this is going to be the revolutionary thing that the labels were hoping for it to be? It certainly looks impressive but I can't say that I have much interest in downloading any of the albums available in the format. Maybe I'm not the right audience member but I don't see myself buying an album and actively watching the Custom Visualizations that come with it? Or maybe I'm just being a naysayer? It's been known to happen.

Anyone excited by this new format or think it's just a bit too much?
